There are many people who require a different approach for various reasons. For the patient who fears the required treatment, IV sedation offers a way to have required dental treatment done in a non-threatening manner. Other patients who benefit are those who need surgical procedures or a very large amount of work to be done at one time.
The sedative used produces a very strong sensation of deep relaxation and well-being in the vast majority of patients. Even the most highly anxious patients can be successfully treated with this technique. Previous experience has demonstrated that most patients have little or no memory of the dental appointment. As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much of what happened. So it may, indeed, feel as if you were "asleep" during the procedure. This is one of the factors that most patients list as its biggest advantage.
Intravenous sedation is smoother and easier on you than a general anaesthesia and keeps our body's protective reflexes intact.
If you feel you are a candidate for oral conscious sedation dentistry and do not want to ignore your oral health any longer, please speak with a member of our team. We will provide you with the information necessary to smile with no fear.
